Sitting on her computer working with video editing software, Kelly Allen is bringing memories to life on film. She is a sophomore at the University of the Cumberlands from Barbourville, Ky., and is working toward her degree in Communication Arts. After college she plans to continue her education and get her master’s degree.
Her career goal is to work at a TV station. Allen volunteers at her local TV station frequently, editing projects and directing programs. She plans on joining her university’s TV station and the Student Government Association.
Journalism is something that Allen has an interest in and the introduction to journalism class is required for her minor in Public Relations. In the journalism class she is taking she expects to learn the basics of journalism that will help her throughout her career.
Since she was little, she has volunteered at her local hospital. Allen notes that since the smoking ban at the Knox County Hospital, she spends more time visiting patients there because she does not have to worry about being exposed to smoke since she is allergic .
While working on her studies she loves to read, watch movies and listen to music. Two books, “Twilight” and “Breaking Dawn,” both written by Stephanie Meyer, are valuable to her because they show that true love is always possible. One interesting fact about her is that her birthday is Valentine’s Day.
The music that she enjoys includes “Firework,” “Circle the Drain,” and “Teenage Dream” all preformed by Katy Perry. “The Tourist” and “Tron: Legacy,” the two latest movies she has seen, are some of her favorites because of the action scenes within them.
In addition to those types of media, she enjoys Time magazine because the information she finds there is important and interesting to her.
